In this session, presenter Officer McLaughlin will provide basic work place violence prevention safety tips that business owners can follow to ensure employee and customer safety in their businesses on a daily basis. This presentation will provide basic work place violence prevention safety tips that business owners can follow to ensure employee and customer safety in their businesses on a daily basis. The presentation will cover: a brief review of active shooter events that changed the way law enforcement nationally and in Nebraska respond to active shooter events, creating emergency plans for basic emergency scenarios, preventing and responding to active shooter events.

Officer McLaughlin is a graduate of Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Law Enforcement Administration. His law enforcement experience includes 31 years as a Kearney Police Officer and 20 years as a Sturgis Police Officer / Team Leader during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Officer McLaughlin has had numerous assignments during his law enforcement career such as: firearms instructor, Simunition Instructor, VirTra Instructor, Active Shooter Prevention and Response Instructor, Operator / Ast. Team Leader on the Kearney Police / Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department Emergency Services Unit and School Resource Officer. Officer McLaughlin is Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CEPTED) certified and has been doing the annual Safety and Security Assessments for the Kearney Public schools during his 16 years as a School Resource Officer. Officer McLaughlin is also responsible for conducting Safety and Security Assessments and Active Shooter presentations for local Kearney Businesses since 2014.
