In this presentation, Dr. Kyle Luthans will discuss how leaders with strong positive psychological resources such as Hope, Efficacy, Resilience, and Optimism (i.e., the “HERO” within) not only have the ability to bounce back after difficult times, but they can also create a contagion effect which can spread positivity throughout an organization. These inner resources are known collectively as positive psychological capital, or simply PsyCap for short.

Presenters:
Dr. Kyle W. Luthans is the John Becker Endowed Professor of Business at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, teaching classes in human resource management and business strategy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, M.A., and Ph.D. in management from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Dr. Luthans has published previous research which has demonstrated a linkage between human resource management high performance work practices and the performance of rural electric utilities. He also has an active interest in exploring the relationship between positive psychological capital (PsyCap) and workplace performance in a variety of industries such as transportation, health care, and banking. More recently, Dr. Luthans has explored the impact of PsyCap on desired academic outcomes for business students. His research has been published in diverse outlets such as The Journal of Management Education, Human Resource Management, Business Horizons, Journal of Career Development, International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, and Journal of Nursing Administration. Based upon his research findings, Dr. Luthans has worked with organizations in the manufacturing and health care sectors in order to implement practical guidelines for managing and developing the positive psychological strengths of employees.
